Christmas Gifts with Meaning

Sometimes it’s easiest to give someone a gift card or money. I say that’s a little “bah, humbuggish” and always prefer to match the gift to the person I love. And if you are giving gifts to someone you don’t particularly care about anyway, maybe it’s time to rethink things a bit!

Beautifully crafted silver pendants , especially with a wide selection to choose from are always appreciated. Choose items made by an artist, because the “karma” you get from supporting artists is always best. Call me crazy, but I truly believe that what you favor and help is what you’ll get more of. These lovely, handcrafted jewelry designs are so much more meaningful than the kind of silver and gold you find in your average mall kiosk or store.

What I like about this site is the variety of silver pendants . My mother is a real nut for monkeys (she still talks about the howler monkeys waking her up in the rainforests in South America during her once in a lifetime trip two years ago) so when I happened on this merry band of simians I thought I’d struck a gold mine! Last Christmas I gave her an entire set (silver earrings, pendant and matching charm) and I thought I’d never hear the end of it! I was her favorite daughter that year, but now that I’ve mentioned this jewelry store to my sisters I’ll probably lose that favored daughter status.

My own daughter is a real dog nut, so when I discovered a treasure trove of unique sterling silver dog pendants I bookmarked this site for all time. It used to be the only good dog jewelry I could find was so expensive that all I could do was drool over it, or try my best to craft something myself from polymer clay. Now there are talented artists everywhere making lovely canine jewelry in all sorts of different materials. From 14K gold dog jewelry to the less expensive silver variety, there’s lots of lovely and beautifully made work everywhere now it seems.

What is it about silver pendants that to appeals to me so much? Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the fact that necklaces are one of the first forms of jewelry ever created. I think it’s easy to figure this out on your own, whether or not you’re an anthropologist at heart. To me, little girls making daisy and clover chains points in that direction.

The other appealing thing is that sterling silver pendants are fairly inexpensive, so are great choices when you’re watching your budget. And once you own one chain, you can switch pendants whenever you want and you don’t have to purchase additional silver chains.

As long as I have a lot of pendant options, this will probably remain one of my favorite jewelry types to own and give as gifts. Of course I still think you should make your own holiday gifts whenever possible, but it’s nice to have options when you’re super busy, which is pretty common this time of year.
