Pet Lovers- Put On Your Pet!
I’m always stressing the idea of strutting your individualism- my newest thought on this is to show off your favorite pet with a pair of cute animal earrings in pewter ! I am personally a big fan of this inexpensive type of jewelry. To me, it’s just as pretty as silver, and costs a fraction of that fancier metal. What’s kind of funny is if tin (which is what pewter is mostly made from) were as rare as gold, it would be worth a lot more! It has to do with scarcity more than anything. But back to my point, it’s a fun pastime looking for cute animal jewelry, and when you wear something that has taken a bit of searching to find, it really makes you feel good!
But I know a lot of people still go for the sterling silver. If you do, and if you love cats as much as I do, there are some adorable possibilities out there. Sterling silver cat jewelry does have a great look, and after it’s all said and done, you can look forward to passing something in silver down to your granddaughters some day.
But for now, it’s all about dressing up, being as outrageous as you want to be, and using jewelry to emphasis your individualism. Hurrah for artists, because we can all have fun with aesthetics, even if they’re “borrowed” from someone else.
Just as with all things, you want to make sure the jewelry you’re purchasing is going to be good quality and long-lasting, even if it is just for fun. Personally, I look for work made from individual artists, whether here in the US or abroad. One of the things I’m very picky about is not supporting child and slave labor which is still used in some countries. I figure buying from individual artisans will cut way down on that possibility. It’s my own thing, but I do encourage others to think about where their products are coming from.
The other thing is don’t buy “throwaway” products made from plastic, please! It’s probably OK if you really love a pair of earrings or necklace and you plan to keep it for a long time, but please think twice if you figure it’ll go with that new outfit then you can just toss it. One of these days there will be one too many pieces of junk in our landfills (actually, we’ve probably already passed that point.) I’m not an environmental hard-liner, but I think consumers can pay attention to that a little bit.
But most importantly- have fun with your jewelry! Aesthetics go a long way towards keeping life moving forward.
